Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Taking care of your new tattoo is crucial for proper healing and to keep it looking its best. Please follow these steps carefully:

1. Initial Care (First Day)

  • Leave the bandage on for 2–4 hours (or as instructed by your artist).
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo.
  • Remove the bandage and gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
  • Pat dry with a clean, soft paper towel — do NOT rub.

2. Cleaning & Moisturizing

  • Wash the tattoo 2–3 times a day with mild antibacterial soap.
  • After each wash, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, tattoo-specific ointment or unscented lotion (e.g., Aquaphor, Hustle Butter).
  • Do not over-apply ointment — the skin needs to breathe to heal properly.

3. Healing Process

  • Your tattoo will start to flake and peel like a sunburn around days 3–5.
  • Do not pick or scratch the tattoo, even if it itches — this can cause scarring or color loss.
  • Avoid tight clothing that might rub against the tattoo.

4. Things to Avoid

  • No swimming, hot tubs, or soaking in water for at least 2–3 weeks.
  • No direct sunlight or tanning beds — UV rays fade tattoos quickly.
  • No heavy sweating or gym equipment contact on the fresh tattoo until it heals.
  • Do not use alcohol-based products, peroxide, or scented lotions.

5. Long-Term Care

  • Always use sunscreen on your tattoo once it’s fully healed to keep colors vibrant.
  • Keep the skin moisturized regularly for long-lasting quality.

Healing Timeline

  • Surface healing: 2–3 weeks
  • Full healing beneath the skin: 4–6 weeks
